HALLOWEEN

Halloween is here and we're ready for it. Sarah and I just got back from Austin yesterday. It was so nice having her accompany on me some shoots over my stay there. The photo sessions all worked out so nicely so thanks to everyone for working it out to make sure it DID.

We attended Kristin Grantiz's Halloween party last Saturday evening and went as a dead set of fraternal twins.... and NO - that's not our costumes for the Drop Dead Bash this coming Saturday!

I've been looking for this magazine around town but couldn't find it. If you recognize seeing it, let me know where!

I'm going Thurs/Fri evenings to attend the KKProjects events. Anyone is welcome to meet me.

How's it going?

I've just been pretty much burnt out with editing these days. I'm behind on wedding albums but I finally found the perfect one to continue giving to my wedding clients - just have to get them ordered!

I finally finished editing Indianapolis. All of y'all should have gotten your CD's by now - or should any day. For those who did their sessions the last weekend of my stay in Indy, will mail out those TODAY.

Next on my list is to edit Rosie/Jimmy's wedding and the Toronto shoots then it's onto Lucy/Josh's California wedding!

I'm still booking for both Austin and DC. I have a good bit during the week available as well as this coming Saturday in Austin, so if you have not yet finalized your shoot date/time with me, please let me know ASAP so I don't miss you when I come into town.

DC shoots are almost booked up from Nov 12-20th and I have a few slots left so let me know if you DO want to book.

Wedding inquiries are starting to pour in so please keep in mind that I will book with whoever sends me in their $500 deposit and if you have been pondering about using my services - put it into gear and decide! I can't wait for another WHOLE year of weddings, they're so addictive and I continue to improve wedding after wedding. I'm always so honored to be part of those special days!

As for Christmas sales - I don't have any specific photos for sale but if there's anything you see on my blog, or elsewhere - let me know and I'd love to sell you an original print. I do not sell "client photos" though, it has to be done at my own time/artwork.

As per usual, I have many, many, many ideas that I yet have to carry out so hopefully things will be once I'm all caught up (when will that ever be?).

LAW AND TRACI OLIVIER

It's already almost time for the middle of October to get here. Things are just flying by so fast (and how many times have you seen me write those words on my blog entries? Too many times!).

Yesterday was Law and Traci Olivier's wedding event at the White Oak Plantation and we had a great time. I shot two weddings there back in March and it is a gorgeous location to hold events at. Law and Traci both looked absolutely in love and everyone around them was excited for the newlywed couple.

Here are a few photos from yesterday.....

As you can tell - they were a good looking couple! I wish the best for them and a long, happy life together.

This week I have tons to do - I need to wrap up Indianapolis so I can get busy on the Toronto, Santa Barbara, and New Orleans weddings! I have a couple shoots in between also to finish.

Austin is coming up on Friday so I want to have as much as I can have done before then!

LSD KIDS PROTEST

The students @ LSD are protesting. I can't really identify who's who and whatnot but I believe I see Randy Pippins (President of LAD) in the crowd). The person sending me photos said the lady in black is from the Department of Education.

Cops have arrived.

I'm back.....

After a few pages back and forth from Sarah - I decided to zoom over to LSD to join in and show my support. When I finally got there - apparently the cops threatened the kids that they would pepper spray them, blah blah so the student that stood up to them and said no - got "arrested" but her parents were there as well so it was agreed that if she went into the "game room" to talk with the department of education - she wouldn't be arrested. She and two of the stronger deaf students went while the rest stayed behind. The buses ended up going out another way (actually through LSD's football field!) and escaped the campus.

Everyone was "Defeated" in terms of the buses but sure enough the game room filled up with parents, students, alumni, community people, teachers, and etc - a good number - maybe 80 - on the top of my head. We played a game of "question/answer/question/answer" with two ladies who had no way of telling is what we needed to see. They are Paul Pastorek's (the person who's above everyone in the Dept of Edu) puppets. We kept asking over and over where he was - finally 3 hours later, he showed up.

Result - he "clarified" he didn't want the school to shut down permanently. We'll see. Kids have gone home. Paul Pastorek is allowing the LSD volleyball team to resume their trip to FSDB for the Mason Dixon tournament. Let's just hope he really has our best interests at heart (or even to save his own ass) - whatever - we, as a deaf community, will break into pieces if the institute disappears from Baton Rouge forever.

They will have more answers tomorrow and have set up another meeting tomorrow night. I'm going to miss it as I'll be working a wedding (Yes, on a thursday!) - as well as missing Law and Traci's wedding rehearsal (I'm a groomsman)!

LSD - WHAT'S ITS FUTURE?

I'm sure most of you have heard about LSD's news by now - if not, the Department of Education has decided to close it down temporarily while there is a "training" session/workshop kind of format going on around for about 30 days.

In other words, many of the deaf students will be "dumped" back home where most of them were "dumped" away from to LSD to begin with. What in the hell are these kids going to do not being in there normal surroundings with their deaf peers? They'll be thrown into the mainstream program where they have absolutely no inkling of what the hell to do next. Several will be thrown in the "special needs" programs because there are more than too many idiot teachers who have absolutely NO experience with deaf children.

What's going to happen to my Deaf community here in Louisiana? I told Sarah that I'm just miffed because I was so excited about moving home and the fact that we decided to make it permanent after so many "question mark" thoughts about where we'd move to - that now, LSD has to be going through this kind of situation. Of course, the kids are number one - but selfishly thinking.... they're also the reason I have a cool, cozy deaf community. There are several good friends of mine that have moved here years ago, a few years ago, and a month or so ago - all because of LSD - and now at this stage if the school doesn't survive...... I'll lose them AND several who are from Louisiana but won't be able to find a job doing what they love and will have to apply to other schools around the states. In other words, my precious Deaf community has almost no chance of "growing" unless the school decides to put an ounce of positivity into it's blood and get a new superintendent. I want the superintendent to be Deaf more than anything. I don't have anything against hearing ones because there are quite a few good ones around the USA - but in order for LSD to really make the biggest changes, we need someone who is qualified within the standards of really understanding where a Deaf child stands.

I know so many teachers at other schools and I'm so envious they're not AT LSD. This state is so gorgeous and it's just got this vibrant lifestyle yet so quiet in a charming way that I can't believe more people don't take advantage of that! New Orleans is an hour and half away and there's so many good restaurants/bars around here to eat/play around with. I just really hope that this "temporary closing" doesn't mean that this Deaf community will continue to grow smaller - and it means that there will be a great, big shining star over the school grounds - to grow bigger, bigger, and bigger......... and better!

If you are concerned about the closure then I would strongly suggest that you CALL or email our Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education and express to them your child’s experience with the school. They need to know the truth and I feel that is something that only the parents can truly portray. Below are some numbers/email addresses that you can call/contact. We are set to close at the end of the school day tomorrow, Wednesday, October 8th. We have not yet heard when classes will resume.

I never attended the school for the deaf but I see the importance of having one in each state. The culture, the workplace, and the COMMUNITY is something a deaf child should never be robbed of so let's make change happen please!

I will be stopping by the LAD office in Baton Rouge to sign up for their organization. I saw tons of their members at the town hall meeting held at BRAD last Friday and maybe .05 percent were my age. We need to get the young involved!
